Tell Redmond City Council: Renters Deserve Rights!
Last Summer, Redmond City Council passed a proposal to extend some new rights to renters, such as caps on late fees, and more notice before rent increases. Despite this, landlords are still raising rents, imposing fees, and making life difficult for renters who simply want an affordable, stable, and well maintained home.
Send a message to Redmond City Council and tell them why YOU support strong protections for renters in Redmond,
The proposals we are sending to council include:
- The right to re-sign a lease and stay in your home at the end of your lease term except in cases where the landlord has "just cause" (eg property destruction). This makes it easier to stay in your home if you don't want to move.
- The right to terminate a lease early and move if your landlord gives you notice of a large rent increase. This makes it easier to look for an apartment and move without having too much or too little overlap with your old lease.
- Clarify the existing law requiring 120 to 180 days notice for large rent increases, to ensure that fewer landlords violate this law.
You can send a quick email in support by simply filling in your info and hitting send on the provided message! But telling councilmembers about your experience will help make sure we can pass the strongest version possible.
