Tell San José City Council: Support Appointments

We voted, now let's get to work!
Last month, San José voters showed up to the polls to choose leaders that will represent the needs of working families in City Hall for the next few years. With Councilmembers Matt Mahan(D10) and Sylvia Arenas(D8) moving on to take on new responsibilities as Mayor and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors respectively, the council should appoint new members to represent District 8 and District 10 right away, so that all residents have a voice in our government.
But the new mayor-elect and his wealthy corporate supporters want to waste an estimated $11 million dollars on a low-turnout, special election where voters would overwhelmingly be white, wealthy, and not representative of San Jose.
Enough is enough.
We passed Measure B in June because San Jose voters overwhelmingly believe democracy is best served when more people vote, not fewer. The idea that residents of districts 8 and 10 should have to suffer through not one, but two low-turnout elections while our City and our neighborhoods suffer around us is a Power Play. Plain and Simple.
Let's get to work.
Tell the Council to make the appointments as soon as possible. There is no time to waste. Let's. Go.
