Tell Spokane City Council to Pass Ordinance for Safer Rental Housing!
Hello!
We need your help - Spokane City Council is voting on an ordinance on Monday, October 14 that will place conditions on landlords who fail to register their homes on the Spokane Rental Registry and who have not obtained a business license. Spokane established a rental registry through an ordinance in 2023 but less than half of the rental units have been registered. The purpose of the rental registry is to monitor housing conditions through rental inspections and hold landlords accountable and require repairs for substandard rental housing in Spokane. Many vulnerable tenants live in very poor and unsafe housing conditions and this ordinance will help them get repairs. It also is good for homeowners who live next to dilapidated rental housing.
Please sign on to this letter that is being sent to Spokane City Council Members, City Council President Wilkerson and Mayor Brown urging them to enact this ordinance. The ordinance will be voted on at the next city council meeting on Monday, October 14. You can also testify in person or remotely at that meeting which begins at 6:00 p.m. and will be held downstairs at City Hall in Council Chambers.
Thank you,
Tenants Union of Washington
