Tell state leaders: Use California's budget surplus for flexible transit funding
Federal relief funding has been critical to keep transit running during the pandemic, but it will run out. The State of California is considering using some of its $20B+ budget surplus on transit—and we need to tell state leaders to fund frequent and reliable transit service.
The powerful State legislature budget committee chairs have included funding for capital projects such as new bus fleets or rail expansions. We support these initiatives, however, they need to hear from you about how important it is to also have funds that can be used for operations—the money that funds frequent and reliable transit service.
Use our easily customizable letter template to tell Governor Newsom, Senate Budget Committee Chair Nancy Skinner, Assembly Budget Committee Chair Phil Ting, and transportation subcommittee chairs within the senate and assembly why the option to use surplus funds for transit service where needed will benefit communities across California.
