Tell The Senate: Vote NO On Bills That Harm Voters & Our Elections!

Dangerous bills that we spoke out against when they were being heard in committee are being taken to the floor of the Senate and may soon be on their way to the House. We're asking you to join us once again in letting lawmakers know that not only do these bills hurt voters, they undermine our elections and our democracy.

This time, take a quick minute to send a ready-to-go message to your senator asking them to vote NO on
SB 220
SB 1600
SB 1750
SB 1993

Why are these bills so harmful for Texans?

  • SB 1993-  allows the Secretary of State to order a new election if the secretary has "good cause" to believe that at least two percent of polling places did not receive supplemental ballots within one hour after making a proper request for them. This would be in effect for some of our state's largest counties and obviously have bigger implications for things like presidential elections.

  • SB 1600 - would require people to provide proof of citizenship to register to vote. Not only is this illegal, it would violate the National Voter Registration Act.

  • SB 1750 - would eliminate the position of county elections administrator in each county with a population of 3.5 million or more. Currently, that's just Harris County. Harris County would have to rely on the tax accessor and county clerk to run elections.

  • SB 220 creates a system of state election marshals to investigate allegations of violations of election laws and to file criminal charges where and when they deem appropriate. It also gives election marshals the authority to impound election records or equipment during an investigation. Additionally, SB 220 prohibits judges from overseeing election challenges in their own counties.
This bill has rightly been called out for being an echo of a similar policy created in Florida and gives this "election police force" the ability to weaponize the state's resources against the people of Texas.

Our Vote Texas stands firmly against policies that harm Texas voters and that worsen what is already a difficult voting process for too many of us here in our home state.

So far this session, we have seen bills that seek to further criminalize voting and remove key protections for Texans. We've seen bills that target local control, including bills that want to override local jurisdictions so that the office of the Attorney General can continue to target Texas voters, even as it has so far made little sense to do so.

Join us in urging members of the Texas Senate to stop these legislative attacks on voters and democracy itself and work instead to make both voting and helpful voter education better in the state of Texas!
