TEST 2 -- support graduate student housing

Concerned MIT graduate students and community members have filed a zoning petition with the City of Cambridge to ensure that MIT builds sufficient graduate student housing, both to support its graduate students as well as mitigate the impact of its massive redevelopment of the Volpe site on the affordable housing crisis in Cambridge and nearby communities. The Volpe redevelopment will attract far more high-income workers than it can house, while MIT continues to grow its population of postdoctoral scholars and to a lesser extent, graduate students. Combined, these forces will continue to put intense pressure on the local housing market, and threaten to increase displacement of moderate and low income Cambridge residents and families. This moment represents a critical opportunity for MIT to make a long term commitment with the City of Cambridge to provide more housing for its graduate students, and be a good neighbor to its surrounding communities.

Please send a letter to the Cambridge City Council and MIT Administration about why you believe it's important for MIT to build graduate housing.
