This is another big week for earned paid sick days! We passed SB230 through the Senate with 29 votes two weeks ago in a MAJOR victory for Maryland workers. But if we want the Healthy Working Families Act to go to the Governor's desk, we need those 29 Senators to vote yes again -- this time on HB1, the House version of the bill.

More than 750,000 hardworking Marylanders are unable to earn a single paid sick day.  The Healthy Working Families Act would allow workers to earn one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to five days per year for a full-time worker.

The ability to earn paid sick days makes good common sense.  When sick people stay home, the spread of illness slows. Children recover faster when their parents are able to care for them.  And, families with access to paid sick days are more likely to be able to make ends meet.
