Unnecessary Dental Bill will hurt every Ohioan
At the end of last year, the Ohio Senate Insurance Committee pushed through an unnecessary dental bill that would impact EVERY Ohioan with dental insurance, including OCSEA members. The Ohio House Insurance Committee's companion bill is House Bill 160, and, to date, the Committee has held two hearings. A third hearing will be held February 7, 2024. We need OCSEA members to take action to stop this bill from being passed by the Ohio House Insurance Committee! OCSEA members, as well as any Ohioans they know with dental insurance, are urged to write the House Insurance members and tell them to stop these costly regulation attempts once and for all.
OCSEA and your dental benefits administrator––the Union Benefits Trust (UBT)––continues to adamantly oppose this legislation, and any others like it, that prevents dental insurance providers from negotiating lower fees for non-covered services for their members. If passed, this dental overreach would give dentists the ability to charge members more money for non-covered services. While this directly impacts OCSEA members who utilize UBT, every Ohioan with dental insurance would feel the financial strain that would come with this dangerous overreach.
