Urge the Highland County School Board to Protect Trans & Non-Binary Youth

Transgender and non-binary young people are at risk in Virginia, where Governor Glenn Youngkin’s administration and the Virginia Department of Education are pushing a proposed policy that rolls back protections for transgender and non-binary students in Virginia K-12 schools.

The proposed 2022 policies – which received no public input while being drafted and were not developed in accordance with evidence-based best practices – would force educators to "deadname," misgender, and "out" trans and non-binary students to their parents; restrict their restroom access; block them from playing sports; and erase their stories from classrooms.

Now, school boards across Virginia will have to consider and vote on the proposed anti-transgender guidelines. It's up to all of us now to make our voices heard and urge every school board – including the Highland County School Board – to do the right thing by rejecting the new model policies in their entirety. Together, we can support trans youth and send a powerful message that trans youth belong in Virginia. Just use this tool to rush a message to every member of the Highland County School Board.
