Urge the House to bring ESSB 5078 up for a vote
We're on a roll in the Legislature this week! Priority NPI bills to strengthen school seismic safety, add revenue authority for Sound Transit, and disclose fiscal impacts of proposed statewide initiatives to voters have all gotten floor votes this week. Now we're up against the final cutoff of session, and it's crunch time for the gun safety bill we've been working on with the Alliance for Gun Responsibility and Attorney General Bob Ferguson.
Our research shows that a big majority of Washington voters support restricting high-capacity magazines holding more than ten rounds.
According to our February 2022 statewide poll, 60% of likely Washington State voters are supportive, with 50% strongly supportive.
Our bill to restrict high-capacity magazines awaits floor action in the House. We need your help to make sure this lifesaving bill becomes law.
The House must start debate on the bill by 5 PM or it goes inactive.
Please take a minute right NOW to email your state representatives to encourage them to vote YES on ESSB 5078.
High-capacity magazines make shootings deadlier by making it easy for shooters to fire more shots without needing to pause to reload. That is why they’re favored by mass shooters. All six of the deadliest mass shootings in the U.S. in the last decade — Las Vegas, Orlando, Newtown, Sutherland Springs, El Paso, and Parkland— were perpretrated with high-capacity magazines, as were mass shootings in downtown Seattle, Mukilteo, Burlington, and Spokane.
These lethal weapons, which exist solely to make killing humans more efficient, have no place in our communities.
Again, the deadline to get debate started on this bill is tonight at 5 PM Pacific Time.
Please contact your state representatives today to urge them to support this measure to reduce the scope of gun violence in Washington.
