Urge Congress to Support Economic Relief for American Families
On January 31, 2024, House Representatives came together to pass H.R. 7024, otherwise known as the Tax Relief for American Families Act of 2024, which includes a bipartisan-supported and expanded version of the federal Child Tax Credit (CTC). This effort shows that when we work together, we can positively impact our most vulnerable communities through policy change.
H.R. 7024 will be brought to a vote in the Senate on Thursday, August 1st.
We strongly urge our Congressional Senators to support this bipartisan tax package and ensure that more families can access the CTC in upcoming tax seasons. If passed, this measure would reach as many as 80% of families nationwide with low incomes who are currently excluded from receiving the full tax credit, and it would lift as many as 400,000 children out of poverty.
In California alone, over 2 MILLION children would benefit from the proposed bipartisan CTC expansion in the first year.
Though this proposed CTC expansion doesn’t increase the tax credit amount to what it was in the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act, we believe this measure makes important progress in supporting our most vulnerable children and families. We’re past the timeline where the IRS could’ve implemented this expanded CTC during this year's 2024 tax season, but there is still enough time to expand the program by next year's filing deadline. Californians are still dealing with stubborn inflationary prices, and this expanded tax credit could help alleviate some financial stress. The time for Congress to support the expanded CTC now.
Act now to urge your Congressional Senator to support the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act and an expanded Child Tax Credit TODAY!
