Urge Your U.S. Representative to Oppose Fast Track

For decades, fast-tracked trade deals such as NAFTA have devastated our communities through lost jobs and eroded public services. Unless we can stop Fast Track in the U.S. House of Representatives, we will face another wave of one-sided trade deals that threaten to lower wages, offshore jobs, and benefit global corporations at the expense of all New Jersey’s working families.

Please take a moment to fill in the form on the right-hand side of this page to send a message to your U.S Representative, urging him or her to hold the line in the fight against Fast Track.

Fast Track establishes the procedure for moving trade deals through Congress with a single up-or-down vote – a process that allows no amendments, stifles debate and expands the President’s authority to negotiate international agreements behind closed doors.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted down a bill supporting American workers who lose their jobs because of trade deals, largely to derail the Fast Track legislation that is packaged with it.

The worker assistance measure, known as Trade Adjustment Assistance, or TAA, was resoundingly rejected – a defeat that effectively sunk the Fast Track bill. However, Republican leaders plan to take up TAA again soon, perhaps as early as Tuesday, so the fight to stop Fast Track continues.

Your voice will make the difference in the fight against Fast Track. Massive global trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) must be debated in a full and open manner like every other piece of legislation. Working people are showing tremendous courage standing up to the low-wage, corporate agenda. We urge the members of our congressional delegation to do the same.
