Vaccination. Inoculation. Then we talk.
A "socially distanced" RUSD classroom.
On Monday, January 25, 2021, the Racine Unified School District (RUSD) announced that they would return students to in-person learning starting March 1, 2021. Unfortunately, the district is not prepared to ensure this can be done safely. On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, the Racine educators' union submitted a 7 page document outlining unanswered concerns and considerations to the RUSD Administration and Board of Education. You can view that document here.
Vaccinations are close at hand but not yet available to all educators. At a minimum, ALL RUSD building staff deserve the choice to be vaccinated and inoculated before being forced into overcrowded classrooms with inadequate ventilation, no plan for testing students or staff, and no ability to physically distance.
Because RUSD has proven unwilling to be reasonable, we ask you take a moment to write a letter to leadership at the City of Racine, who have taken the safety of this community seriously from day one of the pandemic.
