VIC Needs Better Drug Policy, Support SSDP Australia's Policy Demands

It's time to harmonise our approach to drug policy and ensure the well-being of our communities. Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) invites you to join our letter campaign advocating for crucial policy reforms in VIC.

Firstly, let's end the invasive practices of drug detection dogs and strip searches. These methods disproportionately impact marginalised communities and erode trust between law enforcement and the public, while also being extremely unsuccessful with NSW Police data showing 75% of dog indications resulted in no illicit substances being found. Our call is for a more compassionate and effective approach to ensure the dignity of individuals.

Secondly, we urge the introduction of drug checking services. Empowering individuals to make informed choices about substances by providing access to accurate information. This proactive measure not only protects public health but also fosters a culture of responsibility and harm reduction.

Lastly, let's prioritise the safety and well-being of festival-goers by funding and supporting peer-based harm reduction services at music festivals. These services create a supportive environment, offering education, resources, and assistance in times of need.
