We need a goal to end traffic deaths in Texas.
Texas leads the nation in traffic deaths. We can lead the nation in ending traffic deaths. On an average day in Texas, ten people die in our transportation system and another fifty families suffer a serious injury, such as loss of a limb or brain damage.
We don't want ten families to lose a loved one every day in Texas. We don't want fifty families to suffer a life-changing injury every day in Texas. We want accountable goals and sustained progress in making Texas safer.
We are asking the leaders of the Texas Transportation system - Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dennis Bonnen, Transportation Chairs Robert Nichols and Terry Canales, the Texas Transportation Commission, TXDOT Executive Director James Bass - to adopt a goal of ending traffic deaths and serious injuries across the state by 2050 and cutting deaths in half by 2035.
