We need your help! Urge the MA Joint Committee on Education to move two important bills out of committee

Dear Friends and Supporters of Indigenous Justice and Awareness:

The time has come for Massachusetts schools to educate all students about Native American cultures, histories and current issues. H.529/S.344 An Act relative to celebrating and teaching Native American culture and history will help to ensure that this happens.

Meanwhile, research indicates the importance of a sustained focus on improving educational opportunities and outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native students, who have: 61.9% proficiency in English Language Arts; 52.6% proficiency in Math; and 42.4% proficiency in Science. This bill, H.536/S.318 An Act providing for the creation of a permanent commission relative to the education of American Indian and Alaska Native residents of the Commonwealth, would establish a permanent commission towards improving educational outcomes and opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native students.

Please take a moment today to contact your legislators and the Joint Committee on Education asking them to vote the bills out favorably
