The Merrimack Valley Project is a social justice organization working to engage and empower the region's immigrant communities. Our faith, labor, and community partners include many immigrants who live, work, and pray in the district who are also immigrants without status. This creates numerous challenges across the board but especially in the area of transportation. Our immigrants without status cannot receive a Massachusetts drivers license and because of this, they are neither able to have reliable transportation for themselves and their families nor have codified protections with their interactions with local law enforcement. The Merrimack Valley Project's immigrant leaders are seeking the opportunity to remedy this by passing both the Work and Family Mobility Act (HD. 448/SD. 273) and the Safe Communities Act (HD. 1165/SD. 532) this legislative session.
