We cannot save a burning planet with a fire hose of fossil fuels – UN Secretary General

Please write to your Congresspeople, telling them to end the billions of dollars of corporate welfare to the fossil fuel industry, all to line the pockets of the billionaires. We taxpayers should not be forced to fund the very companies that are polluting our air, water and soil. Our children should not have to pay the price in terms of vastly increased rates of asthma. Our seniors should not have to pay the price of lung and heart disease.

Corporate polluters receive $15 billion+ in direct federal subsidies – corporate welfare – from the US government each year. Our taxpayer dollars are supporting the climate crisis which is destroying homes, the insurance market and our health – and allowing fossil fuel billionaires to get richer. This welfare has been around for over fifty years, and it is long past time to stop it. And all this contributes to a dangerous trend internationally: globally, direct, explicit fossil fuel subsidies totaled over $1 trillion in 2022.

This must end.

Eliminating fossil fuel polluter welfare is the right thing to do. And it is widely popular with the American people on both sides of the aisle.

Congress must act quickly to put an end to governmental funding of fossil fuels. There is no time to waste. Without swift action, fossil fuel executives will only continue to profit from the destruction of our planet and the pollution of our communities.
