SIGN NOW: It’s time to take on Big Pharma and enact improved Medicare for All

Congress

For years, Congressional Republicans have tried to stop Social Security benefits from keeping up with inflation. Expanding Social Security would mean that benefits would finally keep up with the costs that seniors and people with disabilities actually face.

We just learned that Social Security recipients will receive a 2.8% COLA in 2019. But monthly checks can still shrink for older Americans and people with disabilities. This is because Social Security benefit increases are based on the average living expenses of working people―not older Americans. Most retirees and people with disabilities have higher health care costs, and those costs went up by a lot more than 2.8% last year.

Right now, we have an opportunity to elect a new Congress―one that will stand with us in our fight to protect and expand Social Security, pass Medicare for All, and lower prescription drug prices.

We need a Congress that will take on Big Pharma and enact improved Medicare for All, to put a stop to these indirect cuts to our Social Security benefits.
