We, the SOAS Justice For Workers Campaign (J4W), petition SOAS Management against any cuts and/or restructuring to the IFCELS department.

The IFCELS department provides essential in-sessional teaching which helps to improve the literacy and study skills of many students at SOAS.

We in J4W know that the teaching staff in this department work tirelessly to support students in both their academic and personal journeys during their time at SOAS, and these proposed job cuts are therefore unacceptable.

Many of the loyal and dedicated staff of the IFCELS team have worked at SOAS for 20 years or more, and it is unacceptable for the university to be proposing job losses. From essay guidance, to help in booking GP appointments, IFCELS staff are second to none in their care and devotion for students.

Any cuts to jobs, teaching hours or essential services provided by the IFCELS department would be deeply impactful and unjust.

Thus, we demand that:

1) SOAS pledges NO cuts to in-sessional teaching.
2) SOAS pledges NO cuts to jobs in IFCELS.
3) SOAS guarantees the future longevity of IFCELS.
