A Bus for Chelmund's Cross?

West Midlands Combined Authority / National Express West Midlands

Unused bus stops in Chelmund's CrossThere are so many facilities in Chelmund's Cross, and this is definitely a good thing. But what good are they if people can't get to them?

When Chelmund's Cross was first planned, residents were told buses would serve the area and bus stops were put in place, ready for those routes. There was a bus route to begin with, but this was stopped due to problems with traffic flow from parked cars on Carisbrooke Avenue. New yellow lines mean this isn't a problem anymore but National Express have made it very clear they don't want to serve our area. They say that the X12 and X13 go close enough to Chelmund's Cross. But that's not what local people are saying, and there are a lot of residents who just can't get that far very easily.

It's clear that local people want and need a bus service that actually goes into Chelmund's Cross!

The West Midlands Combined Authority have previously said they'd help with this, and even produced a map of a proposed route at one point. It's about about time the people with the power to make this happen acted on this.

Please sign our petition calling on the Combined Authority to make sure there's a bus service that stops in Chelmund's Cross.

When Chelmund's Cross was built, two bus stops were included as it was very clear that an area with a school, community centre, Co-op, GP surgery, dentist, pharmacy, church and retirement home would need a bus service. Residents were told that a bus would serve this area. Indeed, there was a time when this was the case.

There is a very clear need for a bus to properly serve Chelmund's Cross, whether by travelling through it along Pomeroy Way, or by using a new stop on Chester Road near the Co-op. The lack of bus means local people can't get to the shops and services they need to use. The stops on Chelmsley Road are just too far away.

More recently, it's been suggested that it's not physically possible for buses to serve this area. However, this is clearly not the case as several school buses do so every day.

We, the residents of Chelmund's Cross, Chelmsley Wood and the wider area, call on the West Midlands Combined Authority and National Express West Midlands to do everything they can to ensure a bus serves this area, which is so vital to the lives of local people.
