A new pedestrian crossing for Charminster Road

BCP Council

BCP Council are going to consider providing a new crossing on Charminster Road, for safer pedestrian journeys to:

  • Queen's Park Academy (junior and infants)
  • Queen's Park Children's Centre
  • St Walburga's Catholic Primary School
  • Bournemouth School for Boys

The Council’s decision-making process takes into account resident demand for a new crossing. By signing your support here for a new crossing, you are increasing the chances that this campaign will be successful.

Local campaigner Kate Salmon says: "There is no safe place to cross Charminster Road for quite a long stretch, from south of East Way north to Castle Lane.

"It concerns me - many children walk to school that way. They have to take a chance crossing the busy main road.

"I think it’s a large part of why so many parents seem to drive their children to school round here."

The suggested location for the new crossing is the row of shops (including West Way Fish & Chips) at 569-575 Charminster Road.

We, the undersigned, call for the provision of a new pedestrian crossing on Charminster Road, at the earliest opportunity.

We believe this is a necessary measure for the safety of the many local schoolchildren walking from the north to:
- Queen's Park Academy (junior and infants)
- Queen's Park Children's Centre
- St Walburga's Catholic Primary School
- Bournemouth School for Boys

We suggest the row of shops at 569-575 Charminster Road as the location for the new crossing,

We believe that current footfall along the road may not fully reflect actual demand for a new crossing. The unsafe nature of this walking route at present may explain the current high levels of car journeys to these schools.
