A safer, more usable junction at Woolstone, Cranston and Houston Roads

We are a group of local residents who have to use this junction regularly.
We do not feel safe at the junction and ask that that the council consider measures to allow pedestrians to feel safer when crossing, particularly those crossing with children, and those with mobility issues and other disabilities who find it most challenging.

years ago, a similar petition was created to improve pedestrian safety
at this junction. Clearly, local people feel that something needs to be
done. It's time for action.
According to statistics from the UK
Department for Transport, there were 470 pedestrian casualties at
junctions in 2019 alone. This is unacceptable. We need to take steps to
reduce these numbers and make our roads safer for everyone.
But this is not just about casualties. Lewisham Council appear to wait until accidents happen before making improvements to road crossings. We don't ever want to see a casualty, we DO want a better environment to live in and a less stressful way to cross these roads.

The junction at Houston, Woolstone and Cranston Roads is poorly designed for the volume of vehicles and pedestrians using it. It feels unsafe and difficult to navigate at a time when making journeys on foot or by other active means needs to be prioritised and encouraged. The council has installed school streets, which encourage people to walk to school, but not improved safe routes to school. This junction which cuts through a residential area prioritises vehicles over local people.
We urge local authorities to take action now by installing safe crossings at the junction of Woolstone, Cranston and Houston Roads. This will help ensure that pedestrians can cross safely without fear of being hit by cars, or shouted at by angry drivers.
