Abolish the Federal Death Penalty and Commute All Federal Death Sentences

President Joe Biden and Congress

Please join us in calling on President Biden to commute the sentences of those on federal death row and in asking Congress to abolish the federal death penalty. Capital punishment is not an effective tool to prevent or respond to crime, and as long as the death penalty exists, there will always be a risk of executing innocent people.

As your constituent, I urge you to support abolishing the federal death penalty and commuting the sentences of everyone on the federal death row.

At least 190 people have been exonerated after being wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death. With a system fraught with error, racial bias, misconduct, and procedural roadblocks, we can be sure that innocent people have fallen through the cracks, and some have even been executed. Executions are irreversible, and the execution of an innocent person is a grave injustice.

Please give your support to H.R. 1124, the Federal Death Penalty Abolition Act of 2023.

As the past Board Chair of Witness to Innocence, Freddie Lee Pitts, said “You can free an innocent man from prison, but you can’t free him from the grave.”

Please help abolish the federal death penalty and support the commutation of all federal death sentences.
