Accountability NOW, Bond in November

GRPS Board of Education

GRPS Board of Education needs to act NOW!

The Problem

Year after year GRPS loses students and staff.

The Eureka Group was contracted to engage parents, teachers, and students in creating a plan for a brighter future for the district. What they found was alarming.

They delivered the report to GRPS on July 27th with a warning: Your house is on fire! Access the full Eureka Report here.

  • Executive leadership is disconnected to the experience inside school buildings and students, parents/caregivers, and teachers feel ignored and excluded from decisions that could improve their experience with the district.
  • Bus service is unreliable, food quality is poor, and student and staff's mental health is suffering. Schools are understaffed, especially neighborhood schools, and concerns on the health and safety inside buildings is persistent.

The Solution

GRPS needs the no-tax increase to pass in November. But we also need the Board of Education to take action NOW.

After many conversations with GRPS parents, teachers, and students UCC is creating a petition to show the strong support across our community to take action NOW:

1. We call upon the Board of Education to create a 30/60/90 day evaluation plan on the key issues we lifted up last May and that have been renamed in the Eureka Report.

2. We call upon the Board of Education to make immediate investments through an amended budget in October to address bus service reliability, food quality, mental health, air quality, and teacher compensation in the 2023-2024 school year.

The time to act is now, not after November.

I support the bond proposal in November, but our district needs change now.

Year after year GRPS has seen drops in enrollment and staff.

The Eureka Group was contracted to engage parents, teachers, and students in the strategic plan. What they found was alarming. They delivered the report to GRPS with a warning: Your house is on fire!

Bus service is unreliable, food quality is poor, and student and staff's mental health is suffering. Schools are understaffed, especially neighborhood schools, and concerns on the health and safety inside buildings is persistent.

GRPS needs the no-tax increase to pass in November. But we also need the Board of Education to take action NOW.

I stand in solidarity with fellow parents/caregivers, students, teachers, and the Urban Core Collective to demand the Board of Education takes action now by:

1. Creating a 30/60/90 day evaluation plan on the key issues parents, students, and community members lifted up last May and that have been renamed in the Eureka Report.

2. Making immediate investments through an amended budget in October to address bus service reliability, food quality, mental health, air quality, and teacher compensation in the 2023-2024 school year.

The time to act is now, not after November.
