Don't leave young people out on the streets

The Mayor of London

We're calling on Sadiq Khan to use his powers and intervene for young people at risk of becoming homeless.

The pandemic is pushing young renters into a crisis. Hundreds of thousands of young Londoners have asked family and friends to help put them up. From our research nearly 150,000 Londoners have had to turn someone away.

We're on the cusp of an explosion of youth homelessness. Too many are already sleeping on the streets. The Mayor must act now and put more money into GLA funding for specialist support for homeless young people

Londoners under 25 are facing a homelessness crisis, and we are very concerned that you are currently not providing enough help for young people at risk of ending up on the streets.

Within your budgets there is no specific, ring-fenced homelessness support services for young people, aged 16 – 25.

The number of young people who have ended up on the streets has increased 47 per cent this year, and now they make up 11 per cent of our city’s rough sleepers.

The GLA sprang into action at the start of lockdown and it is time to act as decisively again.

As the colder winter days draw in - there's no excuse for delay. Too many are already sleeping on the streets. Please act now and put more money into GLA funding for specialist support for homeless young people
