In the midst of an unprecedented global public health crisis, Netanyahu and Gantz have joined forces, not to tackle the biggest challenges facing the region, but to bury the prospects of freedom and rights for the Palestinians.

Trump and Kushner have been key partners to the Israeli right in accelerating and formalizing a project that has been underway for years — annexing the West Bank while keeping Palestinians isolated in geographic enclaves and denying their rights. To call on anyone in the GOP or the White House to condemn or criticize this decision is wasted breath.

We urge Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, to forcefully reiterate his opposition to annexation and lay out how he, as President, will work to reverse such flagrant undemocratic measures — and ensure the Israeli government faces consequences for the pursuit of such policies. This is a unique opportunity to demonstrate his foreign policy experience, show how his Middle East policy will differ from Trump’s, and signal to the majority of the Democratic voters and the next generation of American Jews that he is serious about peace, justice, and equality in the region.

While our political leaders continue to fight back against a global health and economic crisis, we cannot allow the Israeli government to use our tax dollars in pursuit of policies that violate our basic principles of democracy and equality. Now is the time to unequivocally demand the rights of all people, everywhere, to live in safety and with dignity in the place they call home.
