Amazon Associates say: Cut Amazon’s Contracts with Police Departments and ICE

Jeff Bezos, CEO, Amazon

Jeff Bezos claims to stand with Black lives, but the company he runs puts Black workers and Black communities in danger every day. Amazon doesn’t just systematically oppress, monitor, and retaliate against Black workers -- it also perpetuates our racist system of policing by aggressively pursuing surveillance contracts with police departments across the United States.

Through its ownership of Ring, Amazon holds contracts with nearly 1,400 police departments. These contracts give police access to data that makes it easier to racially profile and incarcerate Black and brown people. Crime reporting apps, like the one associated with Ring, are often home to racist comments and racial profiling. Civil rights organizations have demanded that Amazon end these contracts, but Amazon has dismissed these concerns and, instead, ramped up these partnerships. Even as our communities rose up against police violence, Amazon did not slow down. Since the murder of George Floyd, Amazon partnered with nearly 100 more police departments. Amazon also provides ICE and its partners with essential technology, making Jeff Bezos complicit in the detention and deportation of Black and brown immigrants.

As Amazon warehouse associates, we are disturbed by Amazon’s attacks on our communities’ safety and will not allow this hypocrisy to go unchecked.

We call on Amazon to immediately break all ties with police and ICE.

And we call on Amazon’s tech workers to stand with us to break these ties with police and ICE that hurt our communities.
