US Commercial Pilots: We the undersigned ask you to please act now out of respect for the health and safety of permanent Hawai'i residents by not piloting flights to Hawai’i, except to allow permanent residents to return home.

Permanent residents of Hawai'i are asking US pilots to choose not to pilot flights to Hawai'i in order to help flatten the coronavirus pandemic curve, because their State government will not ban tourist entry. Their State government values tourist dollars over its own residents. Please sign this petition if you are anyone anywhere in the world who cares about Hawai'i. If you are a pilot, please also sign and then write to us at the e-mail at the bottom of this petition.

American pilots: you have the power to stop the current tourist influx into Hawai'i. The State of Hawai'i government refuses to do so, and its inaction is in gross disregard for the health and safety of the people of Hawai'i, as well as for the long-term economic stability of Hawai'i itself.

"All 16 COVID-19 cases in Hawai'i were deemed to have been transmitted due to travel, and not by community spread," the State of Hawai'i government acknowledged today.

Lieutenant Governor of Hawai’i, Josh Green, a medical doctor, recommends the following, and we ask you to stand with him against the spread of coronavirus in Hawai’i:

1. We suspend all non-essential travel to Hawaii through 4/30/20,

2. Anyone who comes to Hawaii gets 2 weeks quarantine (including permanent residents),

3. We contact test every positive case and isolate them completely,

4. We continue to study the states that are 2-4 weeks ahead of us to prepare for all of our needs,

5. We stand up extra Hospital capacity (with military support)the second we see it could help.

Bonus: screen at airports, order millions more masks and swabs.

Hawai'i just ranked 45th out of all 50 states in terms of how well it has (not) taken action against COVID-19, and this a big reason why:

As of March 20, 2020, the new coronavirus is spreading throughout the Hawaiian archipelago, with 26 confirmed cases at this time. By the time you read this, it will be more, and Hawai'i lacks enough test kits, so the numbers are actually much higher. State and county governments have consistently refused to bar tourists flying to Hawai'i from all over the world, where COVID-19 is rampant. State and County governments cite the economic impact this would have as their reason for grossly irresponsible inaction. Hawai'i is almost entirely reliant on tourist dollars for its economic stability.

However, the reality is that not banning tourists today will only create far worse economic consequences across Hawai'i tomorrow, next month, and over the years to come. Allowing tourists today to fly to Hawai'i at rock-bottom rates, to then see them refuse to quarantine in place, instead going out on what they call a "corona-vacay"--this will only help devastate the Hawaiian economy for a very long time. Coronavirus will spread far and wide throughout the population of every island, and island health and public service systems will suffer long-term overwhelm.

Residents of Hawai'i know this. They, too, rely quite a bit on tourist and temporary-resident dollars to survive--tourists eat in their restaurants, hire them for construction, use them as guides to see the land, and contract them as consultants in their studies. Many residents cannot work right now because of the pandemic, and are sheltering in place to preserve the health and safety of their most vulnerable, as so many of us across the globe are.

Still, permanent Hawai'i residents KNOW that banning tourists today is the ONLY way to avoid full-on near-future COVID-19 spread across the archipelago. They know that an economic hit from this in the short-term is less important than the more massive economic hit which would be produced by a continual tourist influx. Their own government listens to its tourist dollars over its own citizens.

American commercial pilots: you can stop this AS OF TODAY. Please help residents protect Hawai'i. Please sign this petition, then write to us your confirmation that you will not fly planes with destinations anywhere in Hawai'i until the spread of coronavirus is under control.
