Ask Gannett and the Statesman to Recognize the Austin NewsGuild

Mike Reed, Gannett CEO; Maribel Perez Wadsworth, USA Today Network president and USA Today newspaper publisher; Patrick Dorsey, Statesman publisher; and John Bridges, Statesman Executive Editor

A union is a critical step toward making sure that the Austin American-Statesman remains a place where journalists are empowered to tell stories that matter to Austin. Help us show our managers that we are not the only ones who want this!

We need to have a seat at the table to work together with management to shape the Statesman’s future. We not only want to advocate for change in some areas but we also want to identify what we love about the newsroom so we can protect it.

Your messages will be delivered to the Austin NewsGuild, and we will pass your messages on to our managers. Please let our leaders at Gannett and the Statesman know that you support our effort.

  • Tell them to voluntarily recognize the Austin NewsGuild

  • Tell them why you read and subscribe

  • Keep your message positive

I am asking you to honor the wishes of the journalists of the Austin American-Statesman and the Austin Community Newspapers and voluntarily recognize the Austin NewsGuild.

I support your publications, which have served the community for 150 years. The guild will help ensure a bright future for your employees as you all will be able to work together to serve your Central Texas readers, including myself.
