Bank of England: Stop funding the climate crisis and regulate the banks that do

Dear Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, CC Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer

British banks pump tens of billions into dirty fossil fuels every year - financing corporations’ drilling, fracking and mining around the world, driving us all faster towards climate crisis.

The Bank of England could stop them, but right now it's doing the opposite.

Demand the Bank of England stop funding the climate crisis, and regulate the banks that do by:

  • Stopping their billion pound covid bailouts for big polluters with no strings attached, and invest in a green recovery instead

  • Making new rules to stop other banks from financing climate chaos.

  • Working with the Treasury to ensure livelihoods are safe and new jobs created in the transition to a greener economy.

This is a partnership petition with SumOfUs and 350.org who are running the same petition on their websites.
