Bel Air Supports a Resolution to Ban Fracking in Maryland

Board of Commissioners, Town of Bel Air

The Maryland State Moratorium on Fracking will expire in October 2017.   The Maryland General Assembly will vote on extending the moratorium or converting it to a permanent ban.  If the moratorium expires and no ban is in place, some parts of Maryland would be subject to fracking as early as next year.  In solidarity with our neighbors in Frederick, Frostburg, Cove Point and Garret County, who have spoken out to protect their land, water and communities from the harmful impacts of fracking, we call upon our own Mayor and Town Council of Bel Air to pass a resolution in support of a statewide ban on fracking in Maryland.

We will hold a rally outside the Town Hall and present this petition to the Town Council on Dec 5 2016.  Please come to show your support at 7:00 pm, 39 Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, MD, and sign up to speak at the meeting at 7:30 pm.

To add your name, please sign this petition and please talk to your neighbors in Bel Air and ask them to sign as well.  Thank you!

Friends elsewhere in Maryland: Please sign the petition posted by Sierra Club and Don't Frack Maryland at https://www.addup.org/campaigns/frack-free-md

As a resident of Maryland who stands for clean air and water, healthy children, and a safe climate, I support a permanent statewide ban on fracking. A permanent ban on fracking is the only fail-safe way to protect our communities and climate from this risky drilling practice. By banning fracking, we can focus on the clean energy solutions that will sustain and strengthen – rather than divide and pollute – our communities.

As a Bel Air resident, I ask my council members and mayor to pass a resolution in support of a Maryland ban on fracking.
