Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow is considering voting for a bill that would pave the way for more fracking in Michigan and across the country. The so-called "Dirty Energy Bill" (S.1460) would boost fracking by speeding up approval of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports. It also wastes billions on non-existent "clean coal," and limits communities' ability to oppose new pipelines.

When asked by Sunrise Lansing member Donald Zepeda, Sen. Stabenow refused to oppose the Dirty Energy Bill, even as she claimed to oppose LNG infrastructure. Instead, she vaguely suggested that she might work to improve the bill through amendments. This bill is beyond improvement. She would have to remove all the pro-fossil fuel provisions, and that ain't gonna happen.

Senator Stabenow and other Democrats criticized Donald Trump when he pulled out of the Paris Agreement. But Democratic support for S.1460 would make it impossible to meet the terms of the Paris Agreement!

There are already enough civilization-damaging policies being pushed through without Democrat support. Democratic support for fossil fuels is the kind of thing that makes young people feel as if the Dems don’t represent us. In the times that we live in, we need leaders who will take bold stances to protect our future, who will stand up for our rights, interests, and well-being, and who will go above and beyond, rather than relying on being "not as bad as the other guys."
