Add your name to our open-letter demanding the Democratic Party endorse the #BREATHEAct

The National Democratic Party, the Democratic National Convention, and DNC Chairman Person Tom Perez, and all party platform decisionmakers

The Democratic Party recently voted on its official 2020 party platform.

Noticeably absent? #DefundThePolice, the #BREATHEAct, and many other demands of #BlackLivesMatter organizers.

We can and must do better — join our open letter to the DNC to include the #BREATHEact in their party platform and join our national call to defund the police.

To DNC leadership:

Those who loom large in the Party have already failed the largest social movement in American history, but there is always time to do the right thing.

You've already failed to show you're a true ally by declining to defund the police or support the BREATHE Act in the DNC Party platform. We understand that you’re facing political pressure from police unions and similar institutions upheld by white supremacy, patriarchy and dark money.

Nevertheless, every great moment in history has required people in power to show courage. We are calling on you to speak truth to power and cry from the mountain tops that Black Lives Matter, not just in words but in action. Lip service will not do, we are demanding tangible, radical change.

That’s why we are inviting you to stand on the right side of history alongside us by endorsing the BREATHE Act today.

If you truly believe #BlackLivesMatter, then show it by supporting common-sense solutions that will shift resources away from our racist criminal justice system towards community care and community led safety.

A staggering 72% of voters support defunding the police and yet Tom Perez, platform committee co-chairs and DNC leadership won't entertain simple amendments to the platform — a platform that is supposed to organize the party's priorities for the next 4 years.

In the age of state-sponsored terrorism deployed by President Trump, we, the people, demand no less.

Let’s make some good, necessary trouble together.
