Call for an end to genocide or lose our votes!

We have watched in horror as Israel has killed over 40,000 Palestinians, over half of them children. Thousands more are missing, buried in the rubble of the Gaza Strip. Three-quarters of all Gazans are already in “emergency” or “catastrophic” levels of food insecurity; famine is imminent, as Israel blocks food from entering Gaza and kills aid workers, in defiance of the International Court of Justice. The UN Security Council has voted to demand a ceasefire in Gaza— a binding motion that Israel has ignored.

[Your Name]
I am a resident of Etobicoke South, and I am horrified by the humanitarian catastrophe and loss of life in Gaza that continues despite the overwhelming calls for justice across the world.
Israel has killed over 40,000 Palestinians and displaced 85% of Gazans from their homes. In violation of international law, Israel has ignored both the United Nations Security Council’s March 26th motion demanding a ceasefire, and the International Court of Justice’s March 28th order that Israel ensure “unhindered provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance” throughout the Gaza Strip. Instead, Israel is blocking food aid from entering Gaza and killing humanitarian aid workers, while famine looms in Gaza [1].
Canada is complicit in this genocide: Israel is using Canadian-made weapons to carry out these atrocities; and Canada continues to purchase millions of dollars of “battle-tested” weapons from Israel for its own military [2][3]. These are direct Canadian taxpayer contributions to the ongoing genocide, and they must end now.
Following on this government’s March 18 motion to support the prosecution of all crimes and violations of international law committed in the region [4], and Canada’s acknowledgement of the ICJ’s advisory opinion of July 19th [5], in the joint statement issued by Prime Minister Trudeau and his counterparts in Australia and New Zealand; I demand that the Canadian government use every tool at its disposal – diplomatic, military and political sanctions, and supporting prosecutions for war crimes -- to end Israel's genocide in Palestine.
As a Member of Parliament, I ask you to speak up in Parliament, to the media and online to call for:
(1) A FULL and IMMEDIATE 2-way arms embargo
(2) Condemnation of Israel’s continued violation of international law
(3) Sanctions against Israel
(4) Recognition of Palestinian statehood
(5) An end to the siege on Gaza and and end to the occupation
I pledge not to vote for any political party that does not fight for the rights of Palestinians, and will inform others in our riding of your actions in these crucial days.
I’ve watched as the Liberal Party watered down an already imperfect NDP Opposition Day Motion that the NDP, Bloc Québecois, Green Party and most Liberal MPs supported. But this is wholly inadequate. In the face of genocide and mass starvation, non-binding symbolic motions are NOT ENOUGH.
I will continue speaking up and taking action, and come election time, I will make sure everyone knows how you acted in these crucial days.
