Call on the Maryland Legislature to Override Governor Hogan's Heartless Veto
Maryland General Assembly
Governor Hogan’s decision to deny hardworking Marylanders the ability to take time to care for their families by vetoing the Healthy Working Families Act is nothing short of heartless. Make no mistake – the victims of this decision are Maryland parents and children. Instead of being able to take the time they need to care for their families, these Marylanders will continue to be forced to make decisions like taking off work to visit their sick child in the hospital or paying the rent that month. Victims of domestic violence will not have access to safe days in order to get their families to safety. The Governor has also turned his back on Maryland businesses, who could have had eight months to implement this smart policy, which will reduce turnover and enhance the health of their workplace. Instead, the Governor has caved to interests of the corporate lobby and turned his back on working Marylanders.
We now look to the Maryland Legislature, who passed the Healthy Working Families Act by override majorities, to override this veto immediately when they return to the Legislative session in January 2018. Maryland families are counting on you.
