As Marylanders who care deeply about the over 700,000 working families who cannot earn a single paid sick day, we need you to override Governor Hogan's heartless veto of the Healthy Working Families Act.

Governor Hogan’s decision to deny hardworking Marylanders the ability to take time to care for their families by vetoing the Healthy Working Families Act is nothing short of heartless. Make no mistake – the victims of this decision are Maryland parents and children. Instead of being able to take the time they need to care for their families, these Marylanders will continue to be forced to make decisions like taking off work to visit their sick child in the hospital or paying the rent that month. The Governor has also turned his back on Maryland businesses, who could have had eight months to implement this smart policy, which will reduce turnover and enhance the health of their workplace. Instead, the Governor has caved to interests of the corporate lobby and turned his back on working Marylanders.

We now look to you, the Maryland Legislature, to do the right thing when Governor Hogan would not. You passed the Healthy Working Families Act by override majorities, and we need you to override this veto immediately when you return to the Legislative session in January 2018. Maryland families are counting on you.
