Sign the petition: Decriminalise abortion throughout the UK
Labour Women's Conference
Across the UK, abortion law is outdated and dangerous.
No one should be imprisoned for a healthcare decision. Abortion is medical care, and should be treated as such in law.
We have a motion to Labour Women’s conference to press an incoming Labour Government to decriminalise abortion.

Our Socialist Health Association delegate will bring this petition to Labour Women's Conference in support of our decriminalisation motion on Saturday 7th October.

This conference deplores the imprisonment of a woman in England in June 2023, against the representations of doctors and other health care professionals, for illegally obtaining an abortion. Conference believes that abortion should be an issue of health care, and not a matter for criminal law.
Conference further notes that decriminalisation does not mean deregulation. It should be regulated in the same way as other medical treatments.
We believe that abortion laws, now devolved to Northern Ireland and Scotland, while specifically not devolved in the case of Wales, together with those of England, all have sections which are outdated and dangerous, with a negative impact both on access to abortion, and on the best possible care available.
Conference resolves to campaign for decriminalisation of abortion across the UK, and for it to be treated as essential healthcare, while respecting the choices of the different nations about the way in which this aspect of healthcare is delivered.
