Community Choice Energy for Tucson and Pima County
Tucson Mayor and Council and the Pima County Board of Supervisors
Community Choice Energy is currently being used in 10 states across the US to give ratepayers more choice, break utility monopoly control over energy production, speed the transition to renewable energy sources and save households money on their utility bills. This proven tool is highly effective and we need it here in Arizona to help meet the climate and sustainability goals by the City of Tucson and Pima County. Contact us @ energychoice4soaz@gmail.com.

With the rate of global warming more than doubling from 2005 to 2019, and scientists warning us of unsurvivable changes in earth’s climate already underway, we urge the Pima County and Tucson governments to take bold actions to reduce all southern Arizona greenhouse gas emissions to zero as swiftly as possible. Our lives, the lives of our children, and life on this planet depend on it.
We need Community Choice Energy (CCE) to speed the transition to clean, renewable energy. CCE enables cities and counties to aggregate demand and purchase renewable electricity on the wholesale energy market, passing on savings and other benefits to electricity customers. With CCE, we will finally have a choice in who provides our electricity and how it is generated, ending the current monopoly of privately-owned utilities.
We urge that the Pima County Board of Supervisors and the Tucson City Council work together to implement Community Choice Energy through the following actions:
• Undertake CCE study sessions and pass resolutions of interest by March 2022
• Write CCE into City and County climate & sustainability plans by April 2022
• Request to be the CCE pilot study for the Arizona Corporation Commission by
April 2022
• Advocate for CCE enabling regulations by the Arizona Corporation Commission,
which has jurisdiction in this area
• City and County work together to implement CCE locally ASAP, prioritizing 100%
renewable power & area-wide reductions in fossil carbon emissions by
government, commercial, residential, and all sectors of industry.
