The DC ACHIEVES (Advancing College Hopes for Immigrants’ Education and Vocational Enrichment Scholarship) bill has been introduced in the City Council and our community needs it to be put up for a vote ASAP!
The DC ACHIEVES bill would allow undocumented youth who graduated form a DC high school or earned a GED to receive financial assistance towards higher education from the District of Columbia. Passing this bill would remove a huge obstacle on the path to higher education for many undocumented students in our community as well as open doors to a variety career options and a path to a more financially secure future.
We’re calling on DC Council Chairman Mendelson to schedule a hearing for the DC ACHIEVES bill by the end of June and to include funding for the bill in the DC budget!
