Demand Mayor Ron Nirenberg release the open record requests for the SAPD body cam footage & all internal city communication of Darrell Zemault SR's murder to his family

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and City Manager Erik Walsh

Darrell Zemault Sr. was murdered by the San Antonio Police Department on September 15th, 2020. His family has been asking for the body camera footage since then and are still waiting for answers.

Undercover officers pulled up to Darrell’s house to serve a warrant and murdered him. SAPD has repeatedly changed their story several times in the media to defend the need to use deadly force when serving a warrant. These stories have proved to be untrue. For months the City of San Antonio and San Antonio Police Department has ignored the request for the body camera footage of Darrell’s death and now they are trying to get open record requests dropped by the Texas Attorney General.

San Antonio gives the spin of being a “friendly, compassionate” city but our Mayor has yet to say Darrell Zemault Sr.’s name. The City has updated their body camera policies but left Darrell’s case out of the new policy. Our Mayor and Council cannot proclaim “Black Lives Matter” while denying Darrell Zemault’s family justice. Justice delayed is justice denied. You cannot claim to hold compassion while displaying blatant anti-Blackness.

Dear Ron Nirenberg,

I demand you release the open record requests for the San Antonio Police Department body camera footage and all internal city communication of Darrell Zemault SR's murder to his family. Darrell’s family deserves justice and you are actively blocking actions they can take against the San Antonio Police Department by continuing to deny them access to these open records requests.
