I am horrified and appalled that my tax dollars have continued to fund a genocide for over a year. Israel has torched and destroyed the Kamal Adwan Hospital, burned doctors and patients alive, and kidnapped the hospital director. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to demand the safe and immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, and other healthcare workers who have been illegally abducted by Israel.

Furthermore, I call on you to end Israel's genocide in Palestine and to uphold medical neutrality.
Specifically, I request that you call upon our government to demand that Israel adhere to both national and international laws, particularly the following:
- The First Additional Protocol to the Geneva Convention: Civilian medical personnel shall be respected and protected. All available assistance must be afforded to medical personnel in areas where civilian medical services are disrupted by combat activity.
- Article 16 of the Geneva Convention regarding the general protection of medical duties: Under no circumstances shall any person be punished for carrying out medical activities compatible with medical ethics, regardless of who benefits from them.
- Article 10 of Protocol I, Additional to the Geneva Conventions: This establishes general rules concerning the protection of medical duties. Under no circumstances shall any person be punished for having carried out medical activities compatible with medical ethics, regardless of the person benefiting from them.
- The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC): This legally binding international agreement outlines the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of every child, regardless of race, religion, or abilities. Israel is a signatory to the UNCRC and must be held accountable to its provisions, especially:
- Article 3: Prioritizing children’s best interests.
- Article 5: Protecting parental care responsibilities.
- Article 6: Guaranteeing children’s right to life.
- Canada’s Export and Arms Trade Regulations: Under Canada’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) obligations and the Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA), Canada is prohibited from exporting military goods and technology if there is a substantial risk that they could be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian or human rights law. It is critical that the Canadian government upholds these laws by halting any arms exports or support that may contribute to Israel’s documented violations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Earlier this year, details emerged that Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, who was kidnapped by Israeli soldiers last December, was brutally raped and tortured to death by Israeli forces. This must end!

Experts in genocide from respected institutions, including the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Doctors Against Genocide, have concluded that Israel is committing genocidal acts against the Palestinian people. These are credible voices and their warnings must not be ignored.

I urge you to listen to these experts, advocate for the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and his colleagues, and take decisive action to stop Canada from exporting arms or providing support that enables Israel’s actions. Canada has both the responsibility to protect and the responsibility to prevent genocide. Inaction in the face of such atrocities constitutes complicity, which is a legally punishable offense under Canadian law and the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act, as well as Canada’s obligations under the Genocide Convention.
