Demand USCIS provide interim employment authorization documents to DACA recipients NOW!

USCIS Director Leon Rodriguez

There have been a lot of reports of delayed processing of DACA renewals by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

Last week we here at United We Dream hosted a community call with USCIS Director León Rodriguez to discuss the delays and the impact it is having on our lives. He acknowledged the delay, stating that USCIS is behind on processing DACA cases and asked DACA recipients to call USCIS and ask questions about their case at 1-800-375-5283.  And while this is a necessary step, this isn’t going to solve the problem. We need USCIS to take action and issue interim employment authorization documents to DACA recipients so they can keep their jobs while they wait for a response.

These delays aren’t simply a minor administrative glitch, the delay has real implications on the lives of DACA recipients: Hundreds have reported having been put on leave or being fired. Many people have lost the ability to support their families. And worst of all - being once again, at risk of deportation.
