Demands for COVID-19 Response

Governor Janet Mills

The Southern Maine Democratic Socialists of America is issuing a list of demands to our state and municipal governments concerning their response to the encroaching spread of Coronavirus in Maine. Governor Mills and our state and local governing bodies have the responsibility to those they represent to use all of their levers of power to keep Maine's population, especially those often overlooked, healthy.

Our demands, which we believe will help mitigate this crisis and help bolster our state's resilience to future crises, include:
- The placement of a moratorium on all evictions and utility shutoffs
- Release all pre-trial prisoners whose bail has not yet been addressed by the court or those who cannot meet it.
- A moratorium on municipal governments cooperating with ICE, to ensure that undocumented people are not discouraged from seeking treatment or testing.

Please find the entire list of demands here.

If you agree with our demands, please sign onto them with your name, municipality, and email.
