Diploma Privilege Now

California Supreme Court and State Bar of California

Despite proving themselves through the hard work of earning a law degree and the sacrifice of taking on  hundreds of thousands of dollars in student debt, Californians who graduated from law school this Spring are unable to start their careers as lawyers due to the global health pandemic.

The California Supreme Court and the State Bar of California have postponed the bar exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic until conditions are safe to administer it again, leaving nearly 10,000 Californians in limbo as they wait.

I have joined many of those law school graduates, along with some of the most prestigious law school deans in the state, to call on the State Supreme Court and the State Bar to cancel the bar exam and grant "diploma privilege" to these graduates so that they can move forward with their dreams and career of practicing law.

Will you join us? Please sign our petition to the California Supreme Court and the State Bar of California to urge them to join states like Washington, Oregon and Utah to do away with the bar exam this year and grant diploma privilege to these severing graduates.

California law students who graduated in Spring 2020 amid the global health pandemic deserve better than the uncertainty they have faced since graduation. The unavailability of the State Bar examination shouldn't block these graduates from pursuing their dreams and starting their careers after sacrificing so much already in the attainment of their law degree. It's time to grant these law school graduates diploma privilege to practice law.
