Sign the petition calling on the Democratic National Committee to host an immigration specific debate!
Tom Perez, Chair of the Democratic National Committee
For two decades, immigration reform has been dependent on the notion that we had to take the rights of some in order to advance the rights of others. And that, ultimately, only a single comprehensive bill passed by Congress could protect immigrant and refugees’ rights. This approach has failed over and over while federal policy shifted further and further to the right.
We demand a new conversation on immigration – one that centers the realities of working people and commits to migrant justice on day one – at home, with border communities, and abroad. Today we demand that Chairperson Perez commits to hosting a DNC debate focused squarely on immigration and that every Democratic debate will include the topic.

The last two Democratic debates have failed to discuss immigration. Will you commit to hosting a DNC debate focused squarely on immigration and that every Democratic debate will include the topic?
For two decades, immigration reform has been hamstrung by the notion that we had to take the rights of some, in order to advance the rights of others. And that ultimately, only a single comprehensive bill, passed by Congress, could protect immigrant and refugees’ rights. This approach failed over and over, while federal policy shifted further and further to the right.
Today, we know better. We know that there are many ways to stop deportations and defend our civil rights; that the executive branch has broad authority to take action on day one; and that fighting racist enforcement doesn’t undermine the demand for broad federal action, it makes it real.
Today, we demand a new conversation on immigration – one that centers the realities of working people and commits to migrant justice on day one – at home, with border communities, and abroad. To begin, we are asking you, Chairperson Perez, to commit the DNC to hosting a debate on immigration during the 2020 primary season.
