DRAFT John Barrow for U.S. Senate
Former Congressman John Barrow
Draft John Barrow for US Senate.
John Barrow was the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 12th congressional district from 2005 to 2015. The district, which was gerrymandered three separate times, included much of the Georgia side of the Central Savannah River Area and included counties as far southwest as Coffee County and as far west as Laurens and Baldwin County, and southeast as Savannah-Chatham County.
Prior to serving in Congress, John Barrow served on the Athens-Clarke County Commission for 16 years. He attended Harvard Law School, was in the same class as Chief Justice John Roberts, and was a successful plaintiffs attorney, representing working class Georgians in their cases against greedy insurance companies and negligent corporations.
As a Congressman he was a champion for Veterans issues, sponsoring legislation for higher mileage reimbursement rates for Vets that lived in rural Georgia, to visit VA medical facilities. He championed higher insurance standards for child care centers. Advocated for more equitable Medicare reimbursements for Rural Hospitals. He supported agriculture innovation funding in the Farm Bill, fought to increase grant funding for technical school tuition, and sponsored a bill to remove the small business employer mandate in the Affordable Care Act.
Described as a "Blue Dog" Democrat, John Barrow understood the prime importance of balancing the Federal Budget, protecting the constitutional rights of hunters and sportsmen, and voted for the Public Option in the Affordable Care Act.
Currently the Democratic Party has no candidate to run for U.S. Senate this November. We are asking the voters of Georgia to petition Former Congressman John Barrow to run as the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

We are asking you to run for the US Senate. You served with honor and integrity as a US Congressman for 10 years. We were proud of your strong principled representation of Georgia in Washington DC. Georgia needs your style of pragmatic and bold leadership in the U.S. Senate. Someone who understands the perverse influence of dark money in our campaign finance system, and who will fight to represent everyday working Georgians over the interests of Super PACs.
