Drop Biomass
Redwood Coast Energy Authority and Participating Jurisdictions
40% of RCEA's "renewable energy" comes from a biomass plant which emits more carbon than coal and has committed hundreds of violations of the federal Clean Air and Water Acts. Dumping biomass would redirect $15 million of our ratepayer dollars to real clean energy and move Humboldt Sawmill closer to shutting down this dinosaur and preventing 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

BIOMASS INCINERATION IS DIRTY ENERGY. 40% of Humboldt County's renewable electricity comes from burning mill waste in an aging biomass power plant which emits more carbon dioxide and air pollution than coal. Humboldt Sawmill Company has committed hundreds of violations of the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts and your contract provides for early termination in that event. There are cleaner, more climate beneficial uses for mill waste than generating electricity.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Redwood Coast Energy Authority to honor its promise to provide 100% clean energy by 2025 and stop funding biomass incineration.
