Drop the charges!

Thomas Wine, Commonwealth County Attorney

Since the uprising for Breonna Taylor and other victims of police violence, hundreds of protestors have charges for simply exercising their constitutional right to protest and call for change. We the individuals, organizations, and community members united in supporting the Movement for Black lives and demand the Commonwealth County Attorney drop all charges against those who have been criminalized for taking action in 2020 against an unjust system.

The ongoing economic and health crisis has a profound impact on the courts and the people whose life is on hold while they await trial. The system was already inundated. However, the uprising and unwarranted charges of the system have created even more backlog and denied people the right to a speedy trial. The harm inflicted upon our community comes from the hands of the police, not from the people protesting it.

We the undersigned are demanding that ALL charges against protestors are immediately dropped without prejudice.
