Dubuque City Government: Stop Section 8 Discrimination

Dubuque City Officials and Elected Leaders

Everyone deserves safe and affordable housing. Section 8 is one tool to achieve this. And yet, some landlords game the system and outright discriminate against renters to deny everyday folks the chance at safe and secure housing.

We’re calling on Dubuque city government to address Section 8 discrimination and poor housing conditions. A lot of landlords in this city have shown that they don't want to be held accountable for their actions and the city of Dubuque could do more to stop their bad behavior. Every good vacant unit in Dubuque hurts everybody, not just renters. Enough is enough, we need Dubuque city leaders to stand up to slumlords to stop Section 8 discrimination.

Our city and communities do better when everyone is guaranteed safe and affordable housing. Right now we can do better for folks trying to find housing in Dubuque.

There has not been enough done to address this problem. Too many landlords unfairly discriminate against potential renters, going so far as to even put right on the application they do not want Section 8 renters. Every good vacant unit in Dubuque hurts us all economically and socially. We’re calling on you to do more for our residents and employ every tool you can to increase access for Section 8 tenants.
