Petition to Block the Appointment of Bob Macey to the Southwestern PA Regional Board

We, the undersigned, Allegheny County Residents our standing up for justice and righteousness, we urgently petition against the appointment of Bob Macey to the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Board.

Our appeal is driven by serious concerns over his ability to serve all constituents equitably, as evidenced by his recent statements during an Allegheny County Council meeting held on March 5th, 2024.

Mr. Macey's remarks during this vote reflected troubling, racist undertones, particularly problematic given the diverse composition of our community which includes a substantial number of immigrants.
In his statement, Mr. Macey asserted: “Now I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist but on the other hand here we have a situation where people in this country may have come here legally may have had all the right papers but may have come with a hidden agenda.” These words not only cast unwarranted suspicion on new Americans but also contribute to a divisive and hostile atmosphere that undermines the principles of inclusion and respect that are vital to our community’s integrity and cohesion.

The purpose of the SPC is to develop plans and programs for pubic investments relating to transportation, planning and development, and local government assistance programs to improve the people's community. However, his voting history relating to fracking and trans issues has shown he lacks a progressive mindset that is essential when striving for the betterment of the community.

Appointing an individual to a regional board who has publicly displayed such biases can have detrimental effects on the governance and representation of our region’s diverse population. It is imperative that our leaders uphold standards of fairness, equality, and respect towards all community members, regardless of their origin, faith, or status.

Therefore, we strongly urge the decision-makers involved in the appointment process to reconsider the candidacy of Bob Macey for the Southwestern PA Regional Board. It is crucial that this position is filled by someone who embodies the inclusive values we strive to uphold in our community.
